Left 4 Dead is supposed to me the most awesome survival horror co-op game ever right… It’s the hotness, it’s the shiznit!!!
…Well it isn't. I'm shocked that I am not with the rest of the folks that think it's so great! And I love survival horror for god sakes!!! However, I think the only thing L4D got going for it is a concept. A concept that is not all that new. The hype for this game was outta control- you would have thought it was resident evil 4.5 or something. Everyone was telling me it's like playing 28 days later... Which was a fun movie- but it don't make for a fun game- it just gets really monotonous and headache inducing really quick for me. Like in the first 10 minutes.
The Gamestop dude recommended it so highly, along with all the magazines and other gamers I meet. They all deserve to get kicked in the throat for causing me buyer’s remorse. I mean the graphics suck, the horde of zombies is MIND- numbing... and there is so much nauseating movement and constant shooting!! If the colors were a tab bit brighter on the game I'd be in the hospital from epilepsy.
So why does everyone like this game so much- besides the co-op and the "nonstop action"- why is it so great? Why did people feel it was worth my money. Maybe I just can't hang... My brain unfortunately needs more than the goal of tearing shit up and shooting to be stimulated. Whenever I share this opinion people automatically question if I even like first person shooters or survival horror. People have yet to explain to me how L4D became the game to gage all other great games against. The concept is kinda cool- but- I just don't like it. There are quite a few shooter games that I have fallen in love with- this isn't one of them.
I know everyone is going to boo me for this. But- I traded it in for Tomb Raider underworld and as much flak as that game gets- I at least feel a bit smarter playing it.
Review Summary
The game is very easy and quick to get into. If you’re trying to hurry to the “shoot ‘em up” part, you’ll have no issues.
The graphics are…. Aight (definition- somewhere around okay- but definitely could be better, kinda like an unattractive person becomes “doable” when you are drunk or bored.)
Constant shooting and zombie moans are of superb sound quality.
Gameplay is great if you love online co-op, have no need of a storyline or plot, and love shooting things for hours. Otherwise, it’s pretty nauseating.
The co-op mode is Left 4 Dead’s best feature and if that’s why you bought the game you will constantly want to replay it. However, it is not a game to replay if your only friends are computer generated.
