Angry Gamers Review System
Here at Angry Gamers we do thing a little different, it's just how we roll. Actually, it is our belief that we do things the right way, everyone else just has them wrong. Don't agree? Go bitch about it in the forums and let us know how we should do it.
The Scale, and the Reason for Low Scores
Our review scale goes from 0 to 100 with a 0 being a game of complete shit and a 100 being a perfect game. So according to that scale a game that scores a 50 is average NOT a fucking 70! 1UP, Kotaku, Destructoid, Gamepot, GameSpy etc. all have review scales that are fucked, giving average games a 70 while shit games get around a 50. Many sites also like to throw around the perfect score, Angry Gamers vows to never give a perfect score as no game is EVER perfect.
Value, Why we Use it
Angry Gamers believes just about every game is worth owning, the question is at what price? With this system it is possible, although unlikely, for an Xbox Live Arcade game, XNA game, PSN game or independent game to be valued higher than it's selling price if it is that good.
What we Look For
Angry Gamers plays every game and scores it on five categories. Not all categories are created equal so read below to find out why we shat on your favorite game.
Presentation
This covers the games menus, instruction manual and box art. The most important area here are the games menus: is it quick and easy to get into the game you want? Can you quickly set up a game with your friends online? Is it visually appealing? These are all things to consider, as a game with shitty menus can becoem frustrating over time. Otherwise very little weight is put into presentation.
Graphics
Does the game fucking look good? It is a very simple concept to grasp. Little weight is put into this category unless your name is KatanOmega or if the graphics some how detract from the gameplay.
Sound
Much like graphics, how does the game sound? Do you hear the same lines repeated over and over? Are the sound effects realistic or suited to the game? Do they distract you from the game?
Gameplay
The overall game experience. Are the controls responsive and intuitive? How deep is the gameplay, does it stay interesting all the way through the game? Is the story engaging and keep you playing the game to see how in unravels? This is given the most weight in determining the score and value of a game.
Replay Value
This is how long a game stay relevent in your library. Does the multiplayer keep you coming back for more? Does the single player contain side missions that will keep you interested and busy for hours? Generally single player only games will take a big hit here as once a game is played through once there is very little incentive to come back. Replay value is given the second most weight in determing the score for a game and arguably the most important in determining a games value.
